Where can I adopt a Chinese crested dog as a pet?

Chinese Crested Dogs
andronicus37m asked:

I’m looking for a housepet, not a show dog, so I don’t care if he or she meets the “breed standard.” I’d like a dog that is friendly, though. I’m looking for a dog that is basically healthy, but I don’t mind a dog that is “funny looking.” (I find some of the more unusual-looking Chinese crested dogs quite charming.) Children live in my house part of the week, so the dog should be good with older, gentle kids. I’ve already checked my local SPCA. Are there any reputable breeders or rescue agencies I should contact? I live in upstate NY. I have owned dogs before (but have none currently).

Are Chinese Crested dogs hypoallergenic?

Try doing a search for “Chinese Crested Rescue” on the web.
How far are you from New Jersey?
    Delaware?
    Here’s one in Colorado:
    Or try petfinder.com

try online looking into some rescue organizations for the breed….or just look for breeders….
just type in chinese crested dogs for sale and/or rescue chinese crested dogs….also look on the akc web site they may have some places on there to go…..good luck

You can go to the National club, the American Chinese Crested Club to get information on their available rescues. They also can direct you to reputable breeders that may have an older youngster or young adult looking for a good pet home.
    Good luck!!

the best thing to do is adopt on from a shelter near by. try searching for one one. The have a search for breeds of a certain dog in shelters nearby and it is a very good place to look for one

    1.
    2. quick pet search
    -animal :dog
    – breed: chinese crested
    – age, size,gender-whatever you want
    – zip or city-whereever you live or just newyork
    -pic preveiw:check
    – search range: anything (regional, expanded, national)

    good luck

is an excellent website to find dogs up for adoption in your state. Just type in what breed you want, gender, size, age and your state and search away :-) It’s great that you are open to the idea of adoption!

Petfinder is a good place to look, especially for adult rescues

but if you are looking for a puppy for a pet, then the show breeder who does health screening is the place to search for one, if you want a healthy pup with little to no chance of having genetic health issues,

This is a a breed that can have a lot of serious genetic health problems one of the worse is Legge calve perthes, where ball of the hip bone literally rots away, usually becomes noticeable around 2 years old on xray

Going thru a good show breeder is not about getting a good looking dog but trying to get a healthy one, they are cheaper to buy from than the puppymill one in the pet store which is often very poorly bred.

I am not sure how much research you have done, but a look of people thing because they are hairless that very little grooming in needed where in fact the need more than most other breed, like baths 3 times a week, followed by moisturizer, they also get hairy faces that to look good need to be shaved the hairly hairless also grows patches of hair on their bodies , they need suncreen to prevent burning
Here is a welbsite that discusses care and grooming

Please do not support pet stores or breeders on this one, go to put in the breed you are looking for and ADOPT a poor homeless pet…I have an animal rescue and I have had a Chinese Crested in rescue…she was a great dog, a rescued fur kid will be temperment tested (a breeders won’t) a rescued fur kid will have ALL of it’s shots, and vetting and may even already be housetrained—please choose the adoption option rather than going out and spending a ton of money with a pet store or a breeder, the rescues lives depend on it!
