What type of dog should i get?

sopyso asked:

I want a small dog. I am a little concerned with a Chinese crested. I go from 8-4 at the school, and I want a dog that might be just that long. Willing to give a daily walk or a game out of reach. Just want some ideas. Probably adopt a shelter, but many thoroughbreds in our shelter. Thank you

if you want a small dog that is ok being alone and doesn’t require too much grooming, since your away most of the time, get a a shot haired dog like a mini pinscher, chihuahua, or a pug. If you want a smart dog and easy to train get a mini pinscher.

Chinese crested dogs needs a lot of grooming and needs some powder for it’s skin.

I think a Chines Crested is a good dog for you, but
i might recommend a jack Russel, even though they are medium in size…

    Hope this helps!

You’re gone pretty much all day and you want a dog that will be okay with that? There aren’t any. Dogs are pack animals. They need socialization with people and/or other dogs. Unless someone else can be home with the dog to give it some companionship, put off getting a dog until you have more time to spend with him.

I would say that it is not the breed you should be looking for when you go to the shelter. You will be looking for personality. Watch for a dog, about the size you are looking for, that will be alert and focused. Quiet and playful. Take the dog out for a walk around the grounds and get a feel for the dog. You want one that will be a friend but not a leader – a follower and companion. Good luck! ALSO, check with a local Petsmart. They have foster animals there every weekend. And they are more likely to be able to fit a dog to your needs.

A Jack Russell will train you and tear your house apart. They need lots of exercise. You need a calm, 1/2 couch potato, already trained dog because you don’t have time to do any training. There is a great new show called Dogs 101 on Animal planet on Sat. Check it out. They go into great detail about temperment, training ease, grooming, activity level etc.. Everyone is different. I suggest that you go to the shelter and visit. Just play and look for a calm, trained, older dog that will appreciate just being alive because being alone 8 hours is tough. but many dogs do this everyday of there lives! Good luck. A dog will love you for loving it!
