absolutely! I show Cresteds for a breeder in the US and I have to make sure they ‘suntan’ in the summer to get a smooth, consistent color all over. Some people get tanning lights for them in the winter, but I just send them back to their owners in the winter!

I don’t think they will completely go away, but they will probably appear lighter. But sunblock doesn’t always block out all the UV rays, so being in the sun w/ sunblock will probably help keep their color. That is really good that she uses sunblock, just make sure to watch for it irritating the skin in the future.

Most spotted dogs’, especially dalmations, spots will begin to fade with age.

This is a normal aging process and for the most part shouldn’t be considered something to worry about. Of course if you’re very concerned about the condition, you should have this checked out by your vet, especially if there is an accompanied skin rash or spots.

Like humans, melanin is produced by the body to give hair/fur its colour. Over time, the body stops producing melanin and fading of the hair/fur occurs

Yes, her pigment will fade if she is not in the sun.. in the summertime, her spots will darken back up again when she’s out in the sun. Its just like your skin, it tans when exposed to the sun.

My crested is pale right now, because he hasnt had much sun exposure, I’ve been thinking of getting him a sun lamp. When the weather warms up, he will go lay out in the sun and build up a tan, he gets very dark over the summer.
