My 4 yo Chinese Crested started having serious seizures and convulsions today he is at the vet tonight? Why?

Rhonda asked:

Holds are terrible. I have never seen anything like it did. The first thing that the veterinarian was asked about "bait" of the block, but this is not the answer. The veterinarian has a valium and an anti sezure IV. What could cause this? I 'm so stressed and beside me? What more could he get? He has the puñetas out of the yard ……., I don 't know. What diseases can cause convulsions and sezures in an otherwise healthy dog always up to date on shots and such? Help please!

My first thought is that maybe the dog got dehydrated. This could most certainly cause the reaction you outlined. The other idea was ..an electrolyte imbalance caused by vomiting or loose stools. Third thought is tick/flea/insect bite or sting.
Being a lighter weight breed, the cause need not be great to produce excessive (and scare) symptoms.
I hope your pup is doing better.

He might be hypoglycemic, that can happen in Toy breeds. Ask your vet if that’s what is if you should carry Nutri- Cal with you. That is really helpful for that. All the best to you both. ..take care;^)

First I would like to say Im sorry and I hope you dog will be ok and there was nothing to worry about. Second is that I’m not a vet and wish I can give you the 100% this is the cause but I can’t do that also. I looked up some information to give you a wide range of what it might be.

This link is about older dog which yours isn’t up there are illness and diease that couldn’t be ruled out also since it can be one or none of them.

There might be poison in play from some sick person throwing “snack” into peoples yards.

Of course there can it a whole list of reason but I wish you and your loving family member the best.

Unfortunately Cresteds are prone to seizures. It might be congenital and nothing your dog got into. Usually the smaller the dog, the more expensive the medical problems. I would suggest you give the breeder a call. If you got the dog from a pet store, it’s most likely the product of a puppymill and this is common. Hopefully the vet can give you medicine to control this.

I have a Chinese Crested named Zen. He was a product of a doggy mill and fortunately was rescued by SPCA. We adopted him several years ago. Very clingy and depressed if we leave him. The last weeks, he has had 2 seizures. Zen is approximately 8 years old and is very tired after each episode. He has not been ill, nor has he picked up anything from someone’s yard. WE keep a very close eye on him. I am taking him to the vet this week.

    Hi Jean,
I wish you the best with Zen. It is no fun to go through something like this.

We have a 4 yr old white Puff that was not socialized at all when a puppy. He was just around other puppies. He is very dedicated to my wife, but even after these years, he is very “skittish” around me.

I hope your vet can treat Zen and get him back to his normal self.

    Cheers!

    Stephen
