He owned a Chinese crested before, but recently lost it. I know two ladies who are looking REhome to their babies. One is a 7yr old who is Spay and taught. This seems large and is where I'm leaning towards, but I just don 't want it up and he died on me. She is $ 250 and only an hour away and I do not have to pay get Spay. There is also no Spay 2 years. She is $ 400 and would still have to pay Spay. She is 3 hours away. I have two small children. 2 and 3. What dog do you think would be best for our family? The 7yr old children has been around 2 years and have not. The 7yr old & was raised, a dog show. After she made her own demonstration outside suddenly couldn 't take care of his eyes * * rolls in and the woman who now has been encouraging.

In my opinion, I would go with the older dog. She has already been spayed. That operation is costly and I **** putting a dog under anethesia. Has she been around children before? If not, the younger dog might be a better choice. Although, having an intact dog around children can be dangerous.
If the seven year old dog has been around children, then she is your best bet. She might be older, but she has been around children and will most likely be fine with them. Also, she has already been spayed. An older dog is also much more calm and is usually better with training and such.

I would go with the older one, scince they are already house trained, they have been spayed, they have more expirence of what is going on… So definatly the older one.
But, where are you getting this dog, may I ask? She is 7 years old, and being taken away to live with someone else?

Have you met the dogs yet? I think the best thing would be to meet them in person and really see which one you feel more drawn to and also how they are with your particular children, even though it will take more than one visit to really adjust to new people. From what I have heard, Chinese Crested can have quite a few health problems, so you might be saving money on the older doggie now, but might have soem hefty bills coming up much sooner. I have never had a Chinese Crested, but they are so cute, good luck with whoever you pick!

Hi ~
Your choice of a Chinese Crested is an excellent one! They are wonderful animals, very, very intelligent, loving and happy as a general rule. Don’t have to tell you since you’ve just recently lost one of these beauties.
If you are getting these dogs through the Chinese Crested Rescue Group than they should have provided total information (as much as they can) on health temperament and behavior.
There are many breeder who look for good homes to place their older dogs or dogs that are being “retired” for many different reasons. This does not necessarily mean they are old or older dogs, they could be relatively young. Most responsible breeders of any breed will either have the animal spayed/neutered before offering it. Some will give a coupon to their vet for the same service, others will require you sign a contract stating that you will get the animal spayed or neutered.
There are many low cost places that will do the spaying or neutering for very little money. A little research will provide their locations so that you could call and get price quotes from each.
You do not indicate the source of these two dogs nor do you state that you have had personal contact with either dog. I’m sure others have or will suggest “interviewing” the perspective animal. Without first hand knowledge of each animal you are deciding blindly.
The initial cost vs. age of the animal are not as important as:
(1) Can you afford the cost that will occur on a regular and recurring basis? Year after year there are going to be expenses.
(2) You probably already know the particular problems this breed can and do suffer from.( Ex. the obvious need for skin protection and care, the teeth and many others.)
(3) Whether or not an animal has been “exposed” to children does not mean it/they cannot be excellent pets. Again this is where the interacting with the animal is very important.
(4) Think about this from the standpoint of: How much is your children’s well being worth? How long will this animal be in our family? Will you pay the cost of unforeseen and unexpected problems/surgeries?(Which can happen to the youngest animal, too.)
(5) You’ve recently lost a dog that I am assuming you were devoted to and loved. Did you kids love the dog, too. Each time we lose a (4 legged) friend our age doesn’t change the grieving.
If you look at the future choices from the standpoint of what’s best for the children as well as the adults, you can make a more responsible decision. Do the needed research and analyze what the important needs and wants are = then the ages, money/cost, expenses and future of any dog will be clearer and easier.
Wishing you a happy future for all concerned.

I think I would go for the older dog, because she has been around children before. I’ve heard of Cresteds living to be 17-18 years old.. so she may still have some good years left on her!
You can arrange to meet the 2 year old tho and see how she reacts to your children tho too.. but personally, since you’ve got such young kids, I’d prefer the older one that you know will be good around them. I think she’d be a better match for your family.
