Timid dogs-also sometimes called shy dogs-can become sweet and loving companions.

OMG! I have a one year old “true” hairless chinese crested male too! lol! Okay, the thing is that these dogs have to hear and be a lor of loud noises as puppies so that they arent timid and scared of noises as adults. As for the acne, mine has that too, it is because he is going through puberty and it will dissapear within a year or so. For now, what i do is put the apricot scrubs on him when i give him his WEEKLY bath. They need baths more often than other dogs because they have human like skin. Dont forget, when you go outside in the heat, you MUST put on sunscrees. Human sunscreen works fine. The smell, mine doesnt have a smell so im not really sure. It is probably because he doesnt have fur and they sweat, so if you live in a hot climate, that could be why. He is probably frightened because his previous owner neglected him and treated him badly so it will take him time to trust you again. Oh, and you know how how yours runs away, mine does too. He loves it when you chase him around. Its fine for us though, across the street from our house they have a dog park and he loves it when you chase him. He comes back once you pretend to leave him or when he gets tired! lol! They are very intelligent dogs though. Dont give up on walking him with a leash. When i got mine, he also wasnt used to it because he never had one on before and i got hima t like 4 months. Put one on him, preferably the leash that comes out and you can control how far it goes. You know, the adjustable ones. Try to let him interact with your chihuahua because they loooooooove other dogs. Normally, they get very attached to their owners, mine used to have sepparation anxiety! If i leave the room he will still cry. They do take time to adjust though, especially as adults. I got mine as a puppy and it still took him a while. Mine(Tootsie) is sitting on my lap now!!!! Sleeping as usual! BTW, does yours like to sleep because mine loves it but hates being caged.
    Hope that helped!!!! :D
Oh, and its good that he doesnt make eye contact because that is a sign of aggression!

Look into Linda Tellington Jones- TTouch program for dogs. It is great at giving a dog some self confidence and understanding of it’s body. There are books and videos and these are helpful for any dog and especially those with issues.

Your guy shouldn’t smell bad- that’s a bad sign. If the acne is bad he may have an infection (yeast is common) of the skin. He would need to see a dermatologist. You probably need to bathe weekly or every few days until you can get his skin cleared up. There is a product called Ally Oops made only for chinese cresteds and includes shampoo and acne wash- check for it on ebay.

  • Yes, you should be able to train your crested to use a litterbox. All of my lhasa apsos are litterbox trained.
